God's Children
Protecting God's Children, developed
by the Virtus organization, is a program the Diocese of Joliet has adopted,
along with 50 other dioceses, in order to offer a comprehensive sexual abuse
prevention and education program to all diocesan and parish employees, an also
to all volunteers who work with children. All parish and diocesan employees,
including clergy, are required to complete this course and submit to a
background check as a term of employment. Volunteers over the age of 18, who
work with children on a continuing basis must also fulfill the same
requirements. Attendance allows participants to be both aware of the problem and
to understand the plan the diocese has to prevent child sexual abuse.
